"Beyond" - Original Oil Painting
Product Description
Beyond is one of four original oil paintings in a series inspired by the Church of the Holy Paraclete at Kirkhaugh, near Alston in Cumbria. This piece, along with the others in the series—Between Here and Now, Wings, and Blue Wings—explores the concept of the space between the ground and the sky. Inspired by the way children often leave an open space between land and sky in their drawings, this series delves into the meaning of that gap.
Pattern has always fascinated the artist, particularly in relation to nature and the divine. The decorative elements in Beyond reference both the natural world and spiritual symbolism, drawing inspiration from the church’s interior, which features several references to doves. The creation of wing-like shapes within the patterns was a serendipitous discovery during the painting process, adding an element of celebration to the artwork.
Using a combination of fluorescent acrylic, oil, and gold leaf on canvas, Beyond is a vibrant, contemporary piece that invites contemplation and exploration of the spaces and patterns that connect the earthly with the divine.
