"Arches" - Original Collage
Product Description
Arches is an original mixed media collage by Helen Alice Johnson, created using coloured papers and cards mounted onto premium-grade mount board. The artist often reuses previous painting experiments to bring new life into her collages, and in this piece, a previous experiment with sunflowers becomes the source of rich yellow ochre and burnt umber marks that add vibrant splashes of colour. After assembling the collage, the artist painted over it, adding layers of brush strokes and colours to unify the composition and create a cohesive piece.
This collage is inspired by a day spent in the peaceful churchyard of Garrigill in Cumbria, near the artist's Cumbrian studio in Alston. The idyllic setting is captured through abstract shapes and bold colours, reflecting the beauty of the landscape. This piece was also part of a workshop delivered to the Alston Art Group, focusing on the exploration of colour, shape, and form.
