"Above and Below Cow Green" - Original Oil Painting
Product Description
Above and Below Cow Green is an original oil painting by Helen Alice Johnson, inspired by an en plein air painting session at the Cow Green Reservoir in Teesdale. This painting is part of the artist’s 2024 Space in Between Series, exploring the concept of the space between land and sky in landscape compositions. Johnson is fascinated by the way children often depict landscapes with a gap between the ground and the sky, representing the unknown or unseen. In this work, she uses sacred geometry patterns to celebrate the magnitude of nature and our limited comprehension of it.
The geometric patterns fill the "space in between," intertwining with the visible landscape and hinting at the mysteries beyond what we can perceive. During her visit to Cow Green, lapwings were flying overhead, newly arrived and searching for nesting grounds, adding to the sense of movement and life in the scene.
The painting is framed in a Wimborne White wooden float frame, enhancing its modern, abstract feel while complementing the natural tones of the landscape. It is ideal for art collectors who appreciate works that blend nature with spiritual and abstract elements.
