This painting is inspired by the beautiful Embleton Bay and Dunstanburgh Castle. I spent the day in the summer time painting from the sand dunes to capture the essence of the place, with its magnificant sand dunes, interwinding paths and stunning beach, as well as the sillouette of the Castle watching over the view from afar. It is a popular place for walkers and wanderers, and invites you to stop and stare. Hense the title. The patterned underpainting is inspired by a visit to Chartres Cathedral in Northern France. The North Round stained glass window is a sight to behold, and I used the geometry of the window as my pattern to radiate from behind the castle.

The Spirit of the Lakes portrays a moody lakeside scene with bold, textured brushstrokes. Earthy greens and warm oranges shape the rolling hills, contrasting againsta dramatic cloudy sky. The composition draws the eys toward the water's edge, reflecting the rugged landscape. The blend of abstract forms and natural tones creates a sense of energy and depth, capturing the essence of the Lakes
