This painting is one of two paintings inspired by a visit to Jock's Bay in Kirkcudbright, in Scotland, as well as the North Round stained glass Window in Chartres Cathedral, France. The window inspired the pattern that forms the underpainting and the landscape is taken from inspiration whilst painting 'en plein air' in Jock's Bay. This is part of my 2024 Space in Between series of paintings. I am interested in when a child paints a landscape, they put the land at the bottom and the sky above and a big space of nothing in between! I use pattern in my work as sacred geometry to help celebrate the magnitude of nature and the unknowns of our comprehension. This pattern fills that space in between and intertwines with what we see, hinting at what we don't see.
