This painting is inspired by a painting session en plein air at the Cow Green Reservoir in Teesdale. This is part of my 2024 Space in Between series of paintings. I am interested in when a child paints a landscape, they put the land at the bottom and the sky above and a big space of nothing in between! I use pattern in my work as sacred geometry to help celebrate the magnitude of nature and the unknowns of our comprehension. This pattern fills that space in between and intertwines with what we see, hinting at what we don't see. Lapwings were flying when I visited the Cow Green Reservoir, looking for places to nest as they arrived from abroad.
